40 Bond Street - Façade analysis
New York, 2013
Studio 5 @ Parsons The School of Design
40 Bond Street façade analysis joins architecture and music through one aspect they have in common: rhythm and harmony. The rhythm of the structure or the musical notes and the harmony of the façade or the pitches. The 40 Bond street Building by Herzog & de Meuron is located in Noho, NYC. Its façade spanning follows the columns of the traditional buildings in its surroundings but in two points. In music, this “irregular” division is called a tuplet. Analysing the building’s structure I came up with six differrent rhythmic compositions that vary between simple and compound time signatures.
