Porto, 2018

Abstract
The article Credulous Map, Woman Artist, Cruel Reality reflects on the Public Art Map of Porto published in July 2017. This map printed and distributed free of charge on the initiative of its promoter, the Porto City Council, brings together a significant set of sculptures, monuments, panels and murals installed in the city. since the nineteenth century. Considering that mapping any dimension of reality is often a chimerical challenge, what portions of Porto do we see represented on this map? Given that we are increasingly familiar with maps and roadmaps whatever their purpose, what value systems has this map set out to organize? This reflection problematizes the already expected low participation of women artists in the public art scene in Portugal and hopes to simultaneously contribute to a questioning of the presumed neutrality of these types of documents.
